2026 connection playbook

Connect the properties. Keep the promises honest.

Google now documents platform properties for supported social accounts. That gives creators another performance view; it does not turn social followers into a ranking switch.

By Ryan WannerPractical guideReviewed August 20, 2026

The exact four-layer setup.

  1. 01

    1 · Website property

Add the domain property for full subdomain/protocol coverage and verify with DNS, or use the appropriate URL-prefix property.

  2. 02

    2 · Platform property

Open the property selector, choose Add property, select the supported platform option when available, enter the exact account/channel, and complete the offered verification.

  3. 03

    3 · Visible identity

Link the exact social profiles from the website, use consistent names and descriptions, and point social bios back to the canonical site when the platform permits.

  4. 04

    4 · Entity markup

Use Organization `sameAs` for company profiles and Person `sameAs` for the founder's profiles. Keep markup identical to visible identity.

  5. 05

    5 · Links report

Use Search Console's Links report to inspect which external sites and profiles Google has found linking to the website. It is a sample, not a complete backlink index.

  6. 06

    6 · Performance review

Switch between website and platform properties, record queries/pages or accounts, dates, and comparison windows. Treat rollout gaps as missing data.

Important distinction:

Platform properties, visible profile links, `sameAs`, and backlinks are related identity/discovery layers. They are not the same feature, and none carries a ranking guarantee. Neil Patel's practical advice is to let search, social, PR, and useful content reinforce discovery; Google's documentation governs the actual Search Console setup.

Audit the four layers without mixing them together.

Social-search entity auditor

Audit website and social-profile connections for search entity consistency.

WEBSITE PROPERTY
[domain and Search Console verification status]

SOCIAL PROFILES

VISIBLE WEBSITE IDENTITY

Return four separate checklists:
1. website property setup
2. Search Console platform property setup for each currently supported/available account
3. visible reciprocal profile links and Organization/Person sameAs consistency
4. Links report and performance monitoring

Mark unavailable rollout features as NOT AVAILABLE YET. Do not claim that sameAs, follower count, profile connection, or social engagement directly improves ranking.
